Chana Bites- Chana Se Bani Mithai
It is said that we have a separate place in our stomach for sweets, may be that's why, no matter how full we are after the lavish dinner we don't say no to sweets. In this lock down period, when our sweet cravings are getting uncontrollable, why not try making something from the ingredients that can be easily found in our kitchens.
Ingredients
1 cup chana daal
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup desi ghee
2 cup milk
1/2 ts. cardamom powder
1 tbs. chopped almonds
1 tbs. chopped cashes
2 pinch of turmeric ( optional)
Method
• Soak daal for atleast 2 hours. Strain it and ensure it is completely dry. You can also spread it on a kitchen cloth, to let it dry.
• In a pan heat ghee, add daal and let it roast for some time. Roast till it gets golden and a little crispy. It will take at least 12-15 minutes at medium flame. You can taste it too, to notice whether it is properly cooked or not.
• Now separate daal from ghee by shifting it to a strainer(metal). Let the daal cool down, and grind it in a grinder to make a fine powder, similar to the rawa texture.
• In a pan boil milk and add sugar. Let the sugar melt. Now, add turmeric and cardamom. After few minutes add powdered daal and add half of ghee which was separated from the daal while roasting. Mix continuously at a low flame to avoid lumps. Keep stirring the mix so that it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan. Do this till you get a thick consistency. Add dry fruits and mix well(keep some dry fruits to garnish).
• Now shift this mixture to a greased plate and let it cool down.
• You can shape it in form of circle, cubes or shape you want.
• Garnish with the leftover dry fruits.
